John Rhea is a Partner at Centerview Partners LLC, a leading independent investment banking and advisory firm, based in New York City. From June 2017 to September 2020, Mr. Rhea was Senior Advisor and President, Corporate Finance and Capital Markets at Siebert Williams Shank & Co., LLC., where he led M&A advisory and capital markets, as well as orchestrated the firm’s successful merger with The Williams Capital Group LP. Mr. Rhea is a former Senior Advisor to The Boston Consulting Group, and Founder and Managing Partner of RHEAL Capital Management, LLC, a real estate development and investment firm. From 2009 to 2014, John was Chairman & CEO of the New York City Housing Authority, the largest owner-operator of affordable housing in the nation, appointed by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. Prior to serving in the Bloomberg Administration, Mr. Rhea was Managing Director and Co-Head of Global Consumer & Retail Investment Banking at Barclays Capital (and predecessor Lehman Brothers) and Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase & Co. Mr. Rhea has advised on more than $300 billion in transactions over his career.
Mr. Rhea is an independent director of State Street Corporation (NYSE:STT) and serves on both the Strategy and Technology & Operations committees. Since 2015, John has also served as a director of Invitation Homes (NYSE:INVH), where he is a member of the Investment Committee, chairman of the Compensation and Management Development Committee, and former chairman of the Audit Committee. Mr. Rhea is a founding investor in WhistlePig LLC, an award-winning, ultra-premium American craft whiskey company, and serves on the Board of Managers and chairs the Audit Committee.
Possessing a long record of non-profit service, currently, John is a trustee of Wesleyan University, and a director of Red Cross Greater New York and University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and MBA from Harvard Business School.
